Heirloom Quality Walnut Rocking Chair By Bill Lindau
Over the coming months, we'll be spotlighting lots of crafts people who make masterpieces of rocking chairs the old-fashioned way - by hand.
The first one that we'll look at is Bill Lindau of Lindau Woodworks. Bill, who counts Sam Maloof's rockers as major influenecs, is based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where he turns local hardwoods like walnut, cherry and maple into gorgeous wood rocking chairs.
You will note that all of his chairs have a distinct curvature to then - this is done to gently cradle the seat and provide back support. So, the rockers are not just stylish but comfortable too!
These pieces don't come cheap, though - the walnut rocking chair shown in the picture goes for $4000, with chairs ranging from $2800 to $4500.
