All About Eames Rocking Chairs
Eames rocking chairs are distinct in that they are not one piece rocking chairs. The seat is an iconic arm shell seat which is then mounted to a rocking base, thus creating the Eames rocker. The arm shell seats were created by Charles and are a trademark of the Eames style chairs. The story goes something like this - when Charles saw the discomfort of some pregnant women in his office when they sat on the regular chairs; he decided to mount his trademark arm shell seat onto a rocking base to relieve their uneasiness and make the women more comfortable. Thus were born the Eames rocking chairs.
These rockers with their unique design and style became very popular in the 1960s and throughout the 1970s. However, the original fiberglass chairs (which were made from a single piece of fiberglass) lost favor with the buying public when replication molded plastic chairs with the Eames design appeared in the markets. The earlier rocking chairs were discontinued at this time.
However, due to the growing demand for the original eames rockers, the chairs are now being manufactured once again. The same presses that were used to mold the chairs in the 1950s are still being used so as to maintain the original styling and look of the Eames chairs.
These chairs are available in many colors such as orange, black, cherry, gray, green, pink, white, charcoal, moss, terracotta, blue, and brown. The rockers are available only in one shade - maple.
Thus, if you want an Eames rockingchair for your home, you no longer have to go in search for an antique but can get yourself a new and original rocker.
