The L and J.G. Stickley Company, named after its founders Leopold Stickley and John George was started in the year 1900. At the time the two brothers purchased a furniture factory in Fayetteville, New York, and later established it as their own company, the makers of the world famous Stickley rocking chairs.

From 1900 to the late 1950s, the Stickley Company manufactured many furniture lines, notably their famous Mission Oak (a line of handcrafted furniture) and the Cherry Valley Collection (a line of classic furniture and rocking chairs). By this time, the Stickley Company was a renowned name in the US and was known as one of the best furniture businesses in the country. But all that changed with the death of one of its founders, Leopold Stickley.

By 1970, the company was on the verge of shutting down when it was given a new lease of life after it was bought by Alfred and Aminy Audi. Their continuous and committed efforts once again brought the Stickley Company back to the top. Today, the Company employs in excess of 1300 people and is involved in the production of fine quality furniture including Stickley rocking chairs.
