Rocking Chair Plans - When You've Got to Work the Wood Yourself
Finding Free Plans
Upon careful analysis, you will notice a number of places that offer rocking chair plans up for free. WoodworkersWorkshop.com for example provides an index of different categories of free woodworking plans that can be found on the Internet. Some notable examples from their list include the Child's Adirondack Rocking Chair from HGTV.com, a similarly styled, porch adult rocker from Black & Decker’s website and the mission style rocker from PopularMechanics.com.
WoodProjects.com is another useful directory of woodworking plans on the net. A number of glider rocker plans can be found in their rocking chairs category, the one from Meisel being the most impressive-looking. However, if you are looking for a chair that is not too complicated to craft, the mission-inspired rocking chair plan from American Furniture Design Co. would fit the bill.
Another similar place to acquire furniture plans is FurnitureDesigns.com. While their list of rocking chair plans is limited, the plans themselves are very detailed and include full-sized pattern sheets that allow you to replicate the design flawlessly. This is a very useful feature indeed, especially in getting the size and shape of the joints correct.
Lastly the folding patio rocker plans from WoodZone.com gives you detailed instructions on how to construct a lovely piece of patio furniture that you can fold away easily for storage. However, the folding away part is not the best feature, though. One of the striking features of this chair is the fact that it has no rocking base but instead uses the pivoting motions of the carefully positioned joints to give it a gentle circular rocking motion.
